If you’ve spent part of your life—or even most of it—just trying to get by, the thought of truly getting ahead may feel out of reach. Maybe your story has been filled with barriers, missed chances, or unexpected setbacks. But the next chapter doesn’t have to look like the last one. This program isn’t just about how you got where you are—it’s about what comes next, and how to create your own future story focused on getting out of poverty.
Grounded in the nationally recognized book Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World by Philip DeVol and developed by aha! Process, this free, multi-week program currently meets on Thursday evenings from 5:30–8:30 p.m. and offers a powerful framework for change.
As “Investigators” of their own lives, participants take a fresh look at their current situation, explore hidden social rules, assess personal and community resources, and create a clear, achievable “future story.” Each small-group session, guided by skilled facilitators, helps build emotional resilience, financial confidence, stronger social connections, and practical action plans.
